Sibylle Wälty recently had a Sunday interview with Maren Meyer in the SonntagsZeitung about the concept of 10-minute neighborhoods. The provocative title “16-million-Switzerland is possible” and the assertion that Sibylle Wälty would propagate the renunciation of the car do not correspond to her actual message.
Her goal is not a Switzerland of 16 million and banning people from using cars.
What she really wants is to use clever spatial planning to create a Switzerland in which we can live and be mobile:
🌱 consume fewer resources and
🌟 increase the quality of life at the same time.
And the best thing is that this is feasible, even if the population grows to 16 million in the next 100 years!
At the moment, rapid population growth, which is mainly caused by employment growth, is often ignored or underestimated in spatial planning, leading to urban sprawl, traffic problems and housing shortages.
Let's learn from the past and develop sustainable solutions for the future!
With 10-minute neighborhoods, we can cope with population growth and create more urban neighborhoods in suitable locations that are good for:
🏙️ society
📈 the economy
🌍 the environment
are.
Thanks for the great pictures Sabina Bobst!
