šŸš€šŸ“¢ Participate in the overall traffic concept (GVK) for Baden and the surrounding area until July 14, 2024!

Updated: Jul 26

The draft of the GVK from the Department of Construction, Transport, and Environment (BVU) ā€“ Canton Aargau has incorporated the concept of 10-minute neighborhoods in the area of urban and open spaces ā€“ a first step in the right direction. šŸŒŸ

The following points could be improved, and the concept could serve as a model for further traffic planning: šŸ—¼

1ļøāƒ£ Density and Mobility Behavior:

The effects of density on mobility behavior are empirically proven and not just an "assumption" as stated in the GVK. The authors have fundamentally understood and correctly integrated this. However, the word "assumption" can be omitted. šŸ“Š

2ļøāƒ£ 10-Minute Neighborhoods:

These should not only be considered in the city of Baden. Everywhere where public transport runs at least every 16 minutes and there is a high basic density, higher population densities should be required. The locations suitable for the development of 10-minute neighborhoods should be depicted in the GVK so that municipal land use planning can recognize clear strategic recommendations. Ideally, this would include population density requirements that can actually have a traffic-reducing effect, i.e., not just minimum requirements. šŸ™ļø

3ļøāƒ£ Requirements for 10-Minute Neighborhoods:

A high population density with an excess of employment alone is not enough, as stated in the draft of the GVK. In reality, the city of Baden does not reach anywhere near 10,000 inhabitants within a 500-meter radius at any location. Wettingen, on the other hand, is very close. šŸ”

Attention! The residential densities needed for short distances must be implemented in the municipal zoning revisions to achieve positive effects on mobility; otherwise, a change in mobility behavior will remain theoretical, and car traffic will continue to increase with a growing population rather than decrease. The comprehensive revision of the city of Baden, expected to be published for public participation by the end of the year, is particularly anticipated! šŸš„

šŸ—“ļøāœØTake the opportunity to participate by July 14, 2024, and help improve the GVK for Baden and the surrounding area!
